Trigger Operation: The Umarex SA10 CO2 Blowback Pellet and BB Pistol exhibit a trigger operation comparable to other pellet pistols with rotary magazines. The blowback feature cocks the hammer, resulting in a lighter trigger pull reminiscent of single-action firing, though the overall pull length remains consistent with double-action firing. The initial portion of the trigger pull, which is necessary for magazine rotation, feels lighter when the hammer is cocked, akin to single-action mode.

Performance Evaluation: In our standardized indoor Sea Can Field Test Shooting assessments, velocity testing precedes all else. Given the Umarex SA10's capability to fire both 4.5mm Steel BBs and .177 caliber pellets, we conducted tests with both using a Chrony Chronograph. After firing three shots with each type, we noted that the 6.9-grain lead pellets achieved a superior average velocity of 376 fps, in contrast to 304 fps with 5.1 grain Steel BBs, likely due to a tighter barrel fit preventing CO2 leakage. In the accuracy evaluation, the pistol achieved an approximately 2-inch grouping from eight shots using .177 caliber lead pellets. The majority of shots were concentrated within a tight half-inch cluster, with three deviating slightly, elongating the group vertically. Switching to steel BBs broadened the groupings to about 3 inches, with one markedly off-target shot. Overall, shot placement was consistently central.

Manufacturing Quality: Holding the Umarex SA10 feels substantial, with a pleasing weight and robustness. This modern pistol pairs a metal slide with a polymer frame and includes numerous internal metal components and a comprehensive, drop-out metal magazine. The craftsmanship, particularly the fit and finish, is commendable.

Authenticity: Although the Umarex SA10 doesn’t replicate a specific real steel firearm, it bears a resemblance to Sig Sauer models, embodying a similar design ethos. It boasts genuine firearm features such as blowback action, a comprehensive metal magazine, an open barrel, and the capacity for field stripping, enhancing its realism.

Pros:

  • Solid build and heft.
  • Provision for mounting lasers or tactical lights.
  • Distinctive, full-size metal magazine with capacity for additional rotary magazines, facilitating swift reloads.
  • Option to use either Steel BBs or pellets.
  • Features a rifled barrel.
  • Attractive gold barrel with a removable tip for accessory compatibility.
  • Slide catch doubles as a discreet safety mechanism.
  • Simple field stripping process.
  • Minimalistic warning labels.

Cons:

  • Lack of highlighted or adjustable front sights.
  • Decorative trigger safety.
  • While not a direct replica, it possesses an appealing design.

Comments:

The anticipation for the Umarex SA10 CO2 Blowback Pellet and BB Pistol was significant, and initial impressions suggest a well-constructed CO2 Blowback Airgun. Further shooting tests are necessary for a comprehensive evaluation, but the pistol’s design and functionality have so far been impressive. Despite a preference for true replicas, the aesthetic and functional aspects of the Umarex SA10, including its unique magazine system and the versatility of ammunition, make it a noteworthy option.
