Type: Blowback CO2 BB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Distributed by Umarex.
Materials: Metal & Polymer.
Weight: 1.42 pounds (644 grams).
Barrel: 4.13 inches, metal non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x 1.
Action: Semi auto single and double action trigger.
Ammunition Type: 4.5mm steel BB's.
Ammunition Capacity: 18 round drop out full size metal magazine.
FPS: Claimed 350.

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is fairly decent. When the slide cycles it sets the internal striker ready for single action shooting but there is a first stage of the trigger that moves the CO2 nozzle in the magazine forward pushing a BB into the breech area of the barrel while also sealing off the magazine into the barrel allowing for more effect CO2 usage and extra power. This movement of the magazine nozzle does add a slight bit of friction to the first stage of the trigger pull but not a lot. Keep in mind the trigger pull is a bit longer than most single action triggers to account for this.

Accuracy: I did already perform my indoor Field Test Shooting Review of the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol and it performed OK. I averaged about 325 fps shooting 5 rounds through my Chronograph. It was not super warm so I would expect higher fps closer to the 350 claimed in warmer conditions. In terms of accuracy, I was hoping to get closer to a 2-3 inch 10 shot grouping from 30 feet away but eneded up with more like a 4-5 inch grouping? I’m not sure if it was me or the gun on this day?

Build Quality: TheUmarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is a well made gun which we have come to expect from Umarex. The Umarex HK VP9 is made of metal and polymer similar to the real steel version with a metal slide and polymer frame. You will find more metal parts in the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol as in the slide catch release, magazine ejector, barrel, magazine and also several internal parts. Fit and finish is good, I had no issues shooting the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol when I tested it out.

Realism: The Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is a very close copy of the real steel H&K VP9 9mm pistol, you will even find HK licensing throughout the gun. Some details that make the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol very believable are the blowback action, full size drop out metal magazine, the cut out ejection port with 9mm markings on it, the recessed barrel, a working slide catch release and trigger safety. One giveaway that the Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol is not the real deal is the safety switch on the right hand side of the frame. It is fairly small so it does not catch the eye to easily.

Pros:

  • Nice Crisp blowback action.
  • Full size drop out all metal magazine.
  • Metal parts where where you would expect them to be: Slide, magazine, barrel, slide catch/release, magazine ejector and of course several internal parts.
  • Fairly accurate looking replica of the original HK VP9.
  • HK Licensed via Umarex.
  • White dot sights easy to sight in your target on most backgrounds.
  • Working trigger safety.
  • Rail for accessories like lasers and tac lights.
  • Warning instructions are nice and discreet!
  • Well priced for what you get.

Cons:

  • Not a fan a of the clamshell packaging, makes the gun seem cheap even before you actually hold and feel it.
  • Sights are none adjustable.
  • Did not perform great in my accuracy test, a bit spread out.

Comments:

The Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol reminds me a lot of the ISSC M22 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol in terms of how it operates, they both have that same full size dop out metal magazine that has that moving nozzle for more efficient CO2 usage. Both BB guns also both have that “half” or reduced cycle blowback operation which again probably increases CO2 efficiency and power. The Umarex HK VP9 CO2 Blowback BB Pistol looks and feels great in the hand and has a nice snappy blowback operation with easy to use sights and a smooth trigger. I just wish I was able to get a little bit tighter grouping during my field test shooting video but sometimes it’s just me, sometimes it can just be that specific gun. Let me know how yours performs for you?

Favorite BB pistol

My favorite BB gun for many reasons. It is a great gun, well built and works good. great for plinking or even taking out some gophers. Not the best accuracy has a 3-4 inch grouping for 15 yards but over not terrible and I diffidently would recommend but the price has gone up 50$ since i bought it and for that price you can go and get a full blowback (this is half Blowback) gun or even 2 NBB.

Get This Gun

While not the same weight, feel, or trigger of my 9mm H&K VP9, it's still a close enough semblance to enjoy shooting. For one thing, our first one proved ballzon accurate on both the vertical and horizontal axis when a test group of 10 was fired from a locked gun vise, and that produced a group of 1.44 inches from 10 meters (indoors). That's a rarity among the 30 odd BB pistols we have. The single piece Umarex ammo magazine/CO2 system is a simple, reliable, bulletproof design. The BBs are far easier to load in comparison to the hinky mag system in our KWC pistols as their magazines lack the locking notch to hold back the ammo plunger when loading BBs. This is a silly design flaw in KWC pistols that peeves me and prevents my wife from loading BBs in them as her fingernails are not up to the job. Not so with Umarex or ASG pistols. But I digress. In summary, our first Umarex H&K VP9 receives heavy use almost every day and though it's seen over 100 CO2 cartridges through it, it's still so strong we are buying another so we won't argue over who gets to use it first.

Not as good as I expected

The VP9 is a very nice gun that shoots pretty hard and is fairly accurate at a relatively good price that looks like it might have issues in slightly longer than average amount of time.

Great Value, for my first BB gun

I can't say much as this was my first BB gun and can't compare it to anything else. I can say that for the price you're paying, this is worth it! Everything was great and was a 1:1 ratio to the real firearm. It fits well with my father's Safariland concealment holster! There are so many good things to say about this gun, one of them being the feel and the weight, the 1:1 replica of the real firearm, the blowback action, the full size dropout magazine, the FPS, and for me THE PRICE! I'm sure there are many more pros I can say once I get more familiar with BB guns. Although I wish field stripping the gun was enabled for the consumer, because I'm the type of person that likes to take things down and put things together and to truly learn about the gun, but that's not necessarily a negative because that just means easier maintenance for beginners looking to get into BB guns such as myself. I was choosing between the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 BB pistol, and since I was looking at price, this was the better choice.

Well finished airgun in the class

Well finished polymer body with a realistic handle feeling, metal slide half blowback action not feel as those FBB competitors especially the plastic covered ejector port. But consider the half BLowback action take less CO2 and FPS is close to 380, it’s definitely recommended training air pistol in this class with minimum price cost!

Ordered this pistol on saturday arrived today so thumbs up there. Once you get it out of the clamshell packageing it fells good in the hands, the slide is a bit loose and rattles a bit, i got 4 good magazines out of it, not to warm here today, but nice power from it and accuate at 25 feet blasting beer cans, overall good bb pistol
