Customer Reviews for Umarex Colt Government 1911 A1 CO2 NBB Pellet gun

Brand: Umarex Canada

Type: Pellet Air Pistol
Manufacturer: Umarex
Model: Colt Government 1911 A1
Materials: Mostly metal with plastic grips
Weight: 1.13 kg (2.5 lbs)
Barrel: 12.7 cm (5 in), metal rifled
Power Source: CO2 x 1
Action: Semi auto, single and double action
Ammo Type: 4.5 mm pellets
Ammo Capacity: 8 rounds
FPS: 425

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Colt Government 1911 A1 is extremely nice in both single and double action mode. The single action has the lightest pull, making it a joy to shoot at targets.

Accuracy: I shot this air gun at a target from 20 feet away in a free standing position, and it performed excellent. I got about a one inch grouping just a little bit high of the target's center. The sights can be adjusted for windage if you are shooting a tad bit to the left or right. My Chrony testing with an eight shot had an average result of 383 FPS.

Build Quality: This is an almost all metal air gun with a great fit and finish and a nice hefty 2.5 pound weight to it. It's made in Germany, what more do I need to say? The only plastic parts are the grips which almost feel like a mix between rubber and plastic. All the mechanical parts operation are as smooth as butter.

Realism: The Umarex Colt Government 1911 A1 is a licensed replica of the real Government Colt 1911 A1 45 auto pistol. It looks pretty much bang on with the exception of the slight break in the slide where the rotary magazine is accessible.

Pros:

  • Almost all metal construction - good weight and very solid feeling gun at 2.5 pounds!
  • Comes in a nice hard-shell case
  • Adjustable rear sight for windage
  • Double and single action, very smooth and light
  • Accurate trigger design and working back-strap safety
  • Very good accuracy, decent FPS for a pellet shooter and good usage of CO2

Cons:

  • German made gun is pricy
  • Sights are a bit hard to see on darker backgrounds
  • The engravings on my airgun were a bit hard to see

Comments: The Umarex Colt Government 1911 A1 is a pleasure to own and shoot. You can really tell this is a quality gun from how smoothly it operates and the confidence it gives you even when just holding it in your hands. This well-made airgun has been around since the late 90's and even today it still holds its own. Despite not have a working blowback design or drop out magazine, this is a top notch airgun that succeeds in shooting and enjoying for years to come.

Colt Government 1911

I bought 2 of these, one for my son. We are very impressed with the performance and quality. My friend wanted one but they were out of stock. I recommended to stay with the Umarex for the proven quality. He ordered the Umarex Beretta M92. Both made in Germany using high quality materials. You get what you pay for.....!! Excellent service from Replica Air Guns.

Powerful, precise, solid metal, but...

Had this gun for about a week now. I like the fact that it's powerful, it's all-metal construction (with rubberized grip), has grip safety operational, feels solid and heavy. It's also quite precise, and I didn't need to adjust the back aim straight out of the box. The plastic case it comes with is nice. No clamshell packaging crap here. As for being true to a real 1911, well, it falls short a bit. It's slightly wider than the real thing and the slide looks fake (especially viewed from the top), since it's a non-blowback model. It also says A1 on it but it's not faithful to the 1911 A1, since the back of the grip is flat. The double-action is quite stiff, better use the single action which is silky smooth for any precision shooting. The fact that it's non-blowback makes it last a lot longer on a single CO2 cartridge, though not quite as much fun perhaps. Finally, the price tag is on the high side for what it offers. Yes, it's German quality workmanship, but you pay for it. As for the overall fun and enjoyment, I've found that I prefer my Umarex Colt Commander blowback .177 BB airgun better, for less than half the price. Moreover, it's more faithful to a real 1911 than this Umarex Colt Government 1911 A1, if somewhat less powerful and precise being a BB gun instead of a pellet gun. You could get yourself a Umarex (KWC made) Colt Commander AND a KWC 92FS for the same price, and you'd probably have twice the fun (that 92FS has a full auto mode). But if it's a high quality pellet gun that you're looking for, this UMAREX COLT GOVERNMENT 1911 A1 is certainly one of them.

A must-have gun for any serious collection

Surprisingly no reviews so far on this beautiful piece of hardware... I purchased 1911 about a year ago and have been very satisfied with it essentially in every aspect. Build quality is close to perfect (one thing left to desire design wise is the magazine changing procedure which often ends up with a magazine fall out on the ground, - presumably a rather common design overlook for many other models too...). The trigger pull is unbelievably soft and responsive which positively contributes to accuracy of shooting.Velocity is also pretty decent, especially when quality pallets are used. The instance I got did not require any calibration sights-wise and/or substantial behavioral adjustment to compensate for natural misalignment due to elements, breathing, weight, etc. If you consider owning an item from this category (a pellet airgun that is), you owe it to yourself to get this one. Chances of being disappointed with such a choice are close to zero.
